IOM June 2019 Results and report

A bright start to the day ensued but with the promise of the occasional shower and more importantly increasing wind strengths the race proceeded in earnest .   We got very little rain as was forecast but some good solid gusts and the occasional lulls over the day’s racing made it self known .  We had a reasonable entry that fared well for some good close racing and that is what we got.  The course setting was on the far bank giving us a better distance to the windward mark in this fast class . Jerry and Graeme put together[…]

IOM May 2019 Results and Report

It was a great day for the IOM racing as the weather was ideal  to us all who took part in it.  A bit fresh in parts but not as before during the bitter winter winds so we can look forward to our racing in better conditions …. The wind angle, or should I say angles ,which once again did not go to our liking for setting a longer windward beat as one can set on the far bank of the lake, gave us yet  again the` short straw`of choices  . ..Graeme Harris, who is doing a great job of[…]

DF 95 April 2019 Results and Report

Dragon Flite 95 Spring Series Race Report (April)   Well, the 6 DF95 skippers who attended their joint race day with the 6mts, were in for some pretty strong winds and gusts, which had been forecast to increase in strength from top end of force 3-4 to top end of force 4-5 throughout the race day! Hopefully the skippers who arrived had at least three rigs available, (A-D) and knew from the very start that they would be using the “B” rig of choice for the first 2 races! So upon practice, as not many had used this rig before,[…]

6 Metre April Results and Report

6 METRE SPRING SERIES RACE 1 (APRIL) RACE REPORT The 6 Metres were the second of the fleets to take to the water after the Dragon Flite 95’s had shown the way on the Olympic laid course. The easterly wind had been increasing noticeably during the Dragon racing and from the bank nasty looking gusts were quite evident. Graeme Harris with the new Rococo (118) decided wisely to set a No 2 rig and did the same on his second boat the Tias (34) on loan to James Scrimshaw for the day. The other two boats 30 (Steve Watts) and[…]

DF 65 March Results and Report

Dragon Force 65 Race Report 24.3.2019   With 10 DF65 skippers arriving for our races and with a variable Easterly forecast wind, of force 2 and invariably increasing, and decreasing throughout the day, racing was due to be “very interesting” you could say! This wind direction always tends to be challenging in setting a course, which needs to allow for any “dead & light wind” areas, causing this East Bank wind, to hook along parts of the south bank somewhat, and so it was. So Richard W with some head scratching, set us the course with the control zone on[…]

IOM Winter Series March Results and Report

The weather forecast for the Saturday  for our IOM racing  look somewhat daunting for the entrants with one or two having second thoughts to turn up at all .But as is the case at DMBC  we had a wonderful turnout in what would be an exciting day at the races …. The rig of the day was firmly decided after some mutterings and wide discussions to the merit of a #1 rig in the lulls  .That idea was duly quashed as the envisaged wind came to the fore ..#2 rig prevailed with one or two #3 rigs quietly in the[…]

6 Metre March Results and Report

6M WINTER SERIES MARCH 2019 RACE REPORT. This was scheduled to be the second of the combined Race day’s for the 6M and DF95 Fleets. The rather poor weather forecast of strengthening winds and heavy rain deterred some competitors and resulted in the five 6M’s racing alone. The Olympic style course was laid by Keith Simmons (DF95) and saw the entrants come to start line with a variety of rig sizes set. Whilst Morley Varker (57) sported the number 2 rig and prayed for wind all day, Dain O’Driscoll (58) set his DRSKY with full number 1 rig and hoped[…]

DF 95 February 2019 Results and report

DF95 RACE REPORT   Depending upon where you lived, the drive was a foggy one for some of the DF95 and 6mt skippers. However, once arriving at the lake, sunny weather and a good S veering to SW breeze, promised both the DF95s and the 6mt skippers a fantastic joint days racing. With experienced and less experienced 95 skippers on the start line, help and assistance was available to those who may need a tweak or two for hopefully, a “go faster” boat, together with guidance on the water to get them into the groove. We were given the honour[…]
