IOM Series October results and report

Hello all .                The decision as always to race was carried out to the `T` by the IOM Fleet organisers .. We were most emphatic that as the IOM fleet members have the 3 prescribed rigs ,we race  .Graeme Harris had an untried #3 rig so it was a good chance to see it perform in the conditions on way or another .  Knowing that the `weather` was going to blow an absolute  `hooley` a few helms  arrived to make the best of it .         For a start all[…]

6 Meter September Results and Report

Hello all Yet another of our Summer racing series comes to an end, namely the 6’s . Played out  with equal enthusiasm with  all of you who raced in  these classic yachts over the past months  . Yesterday was no exception . The course setting was back to a windward/leeward setup again with a few minor `tweaks`by Graeme Harris  along the way  during the day to make the best of the wind direction the racers had to work with . The  start of the race sequences were somewhat in the lighter winds the helms had  faced but as the day progressed the wind increased to a reasonably good breeze that showed these[…]

IOM Results and Report for September

The `Last of the Summer ` IOM series was played out in a fine fashion at our lake on Saturday for this rearranged fixture  . The weather was excellent all round  for the 9 entries who took part  . A  few were absent due to vacations and racing in offshore regattas etc .Soon to return shortly from what I hear. The usual vagaries of the wind on Dartmoor behaved themselves today as did the helms I might add .In fact a well controlled competitive day overall ensued .  Good to see the return of James Scrimshaw after several months away from our  Club activities with his[…]

6 Metres on Dartmoor On Saturday the 2nd of June Dartmoor Model Boat Club hosted the inaugural SW District Championship(reclassified) event for the 6 Metre Class. Ten boats assembled for the event on what was a somewhat uncharacteristic day at Shaugh lake as the sun shone, there was no rain and Number 1 rigs were used throughout the day. Racing got underway on time in a light veering Southerly wind over an Olympic type course. The Dolphin designed 981 was the first casualty of the day missing the first race start as the rudder system failed causing the rudder to[…]

DF 65 1st Summer series Results and Report

` What was to be a new `Trial `venture on our race calendar with the already well established Dragon Force fleet in abundance ,the concept of  two classes namely the aforementioned and the Dragon Flites combining in various  forms that could be viable ,had not taken place due to some lack of support . So I will leave any direct comments off this page until we have gone over the experiment with the actual DFlite helms themselves while they engage with the Committee and specifically Jerry Lock and I who will no doubt have a meaningful conversation or two . The weather on the day was[…]
