6 Meter Winter Series January 2019 Results and Report
JANUARY 6 M WINTER SERIES REPORT. After postponing the initial 6M racing due to a complete lack of wind, today saw a rerun in very different conditions. With the forecast indicating that the WSW winds would increase significantly after midday accompanied by heavy rain the race officials and also the competitors were keen to get racing underway rather quickly. The course having been laid by Steve Watts with help from Keith Simmons on the bank and Dave Morris unusually covered the requirements of two fleets, the Dragon Flite 95 and 6M. The number of 6M competitors was reduced due to[…]

16 DF65 skippers were greeted by almost no wind at all on Saturday morning, however eventually a little wind arrived which allowed 12 races over a shortened course of 1 and ½ laps to be completed before the wind disappeared again. Keith Simmons and Richard Wills laid out the buoys to give a windward mark, with spreader, and the start line also functioning as a leeward gate. After 6 races and a break, the opportunity was taken to shift the course slightly as the wind direction changed, and also to slightly lengthen the start line. With half of the fleet sporting[…]

We had a most pleasing turn out for this IOM race from you ,the members, on the day . It goes to show we still have many members who enjoy racing this class within the Club. The weather or should I dare say the actual wind strength caused some certain different opinions among the participants as to what rig would be the most applicable on the day occurred initially. . Just about 99% of the helms opted for the `A`rig ,bar one who shall be nameless who had a word or two with Odin the night before as to what[…]

Hello all you IOM helms and more The `Xmas Edition` of the IOM class boats racing was held after a previous date was cancelled due to some weather that put paid to our on going race schedules for this year . The response from the members was second to none despite several of our IOM class racers were otherwise disposed in some far flung parts of the country. Or dare I mention it …shopping ? The weather in the early morning looked rather daunting to say the least as[…]

6M WINTER SERIES. NOVEMBER RACE REPORT. Seven skippers gathered on a very grey looking morning to contest the latest round of the series. The forecast one has to say, was not encouraging with a light Easterly wind and rain. However, you never know with Dartmoor as the day turned out to be much better than expected, resulting in a good day’s racing and the normal 16 races being run. A rather unwell Graeme Harris laid an Olympic style course assisted by Dave Morris, unfortunately Graeme’s efforts were not to be rewarded as he felt unable to stay and race. Hopefully[…]

Hello all . The decision as always to race was carried out to the `T` by the IOM Fleet organisers .. We were most emphatic that as the IOM fleet members have the 3 prescribed rigs ,we race .Graeme Harris had an untried #3 rig so it was a good chance to see it perform in the conditions on way or another . Knowing that the `weather` was going to blow an absolute `hooley` a few helms arrived to make the best of it . For a start all[…]

Hello all Yet another of our Summer racing series comes to an end, namely the 6’s . Played out with equal enthusiasm with all of you who raced in these classic yachts over the past months . Yesterday was no exception . The course setting was back to a windward/leeward setup again with a few minor `tweaks`by Graeme Harris along the way during the day to make the best of the wind direction the racers had to work with . The start of the race sequences were somewhat in the lighter winds the helms had faced but as the day progressed the wind increased to a reasonably good breeze that showed these[…]
