IOM Results and Report for September

The `Last of the Summer ` IOM series was played out in a fine fashion at our lake on Saturday for this rearranged fixture  . The weather was excellent all round  for the 9 entries who took part  . A  few were absent due to vacations and racing in offshore regattas etc .Soon to return shortly from what I hear.

The usual vagaries of the wind on Dartmoor behaved themselves today as did the helms I might add .In fact a well controlled competitive day overall ensued .  Good to see the return of James Scrimshaw after several months away from our  Club activities with his new house building project …

Graeme and I  once again had set an Olympic coarse due to the wind being on the left hand side of the lake that often gives us a shorter than normal windward leg hence the `Triangle sausage` configuration .. The wing mark was near the bankside instead of being in the distance to eliminate any visual issues so  .

The `windward can` was initially in the wind zone until it was fit to enlarge the windward leg to space out the boats ….Hopefully !!

Richard Wills who actually cycled to the pond, took up the task of shifting the cans for us so Graeme  could  stay racing his own boat .

Good to see and hear cooperation among members on this important job in course adjustments etc

Despite all of these factors, we had some very close racing among James Scrimshaw ,John White ,Peter Cropper with Graeme Harris keeping the pressure, on vying for line honours .

The following fleet were not without any distinction at all as Barb Varker got a great result in third place in one race. Even I managed a couple of seconds believe it or not until it all went pear shaped for me later on.

Anyway the main thing is that everyone had a great day’s racing with John White winning the event on 21 points followed by James Scrimshaw on 28 pts  with Peter Cropper with 36 pts plus Graeme Harris ,46 pts

By the way folks , John Kiff our RO utilised a small  tape machine to record the finishing boats on the line . In fact most of the race was more or less recorded including the infamous  General Recalls if I am not wrong …Rob Eaves, Tom’s brother assisted John as the line scribe for the day .Thank you Rob for your effort.

That race on Saturday being the last of the Summer series for the IOM Class, we will start anew next month of October with the Winter series proper.
