6 Metre March Results and Report

6M WINTER SERIES MARCH 2019 RACE REPORT. This was scheduled to be the second of the combined Race day’s for the 6M and DF95 Fleets. The rather poor weather forecast of strengthening winds and heavy rain deterred some competitors and resulted in the five 6M’s racing alone. The Olympic style course was laid by Keith Simmons (DF95) and saw the entrants come to start line with a variety of rig sizes set. Whilst Morley Varker (57) sported the number 2 rig and prayed for wind all day, Dain O’Driscoll (58) set his DRSKY with full number 1 rig and hoped[…]

DF 95 February 2019 Results and report

DF95 RACE REPORT   Depending upon where you lived, the drive was a foggy one for some of the DF95 and 6mt skippers. However, once arriving at the lake, sunny weather and a good S veering to SW breeze, promised both the DF95s and the 6mt skippers a fantastic joint days racing. With experienced and less experienced 95 skippers on the start line, help and assistance was available to those who may need a tweak or two for hopefully, a “go faster” boat, together with guidance on the water to get them into the groove. We were given the honour[…]

6 Meter Winter Series Febuary 2019 Results and Report

Seven 6 metre class competitors joined their colleagues from the Dragon 95 fleet on the lake yesterday for a good day’s racing in almost ideal conditions for both fleets. The Dragon 95’s raced first over the windward/ leeward gated course set by Keith Simmons and Steve Watts. Whilst this course configuration is normal for the 95’s it is not normal for the 6M but was the only course that they could set on the day due to wind direction. The first race was won by Steve Watts with the Ravenna designed 30 which one could say is the scratch boat,[…]

DF 65 Winter Series January 19th 2019 Results and Report

16 DF65 skippers were greeted by almost no wind at all on Saturday morning, however eventually a little wind arrived which allowed 12 races over a shortened course of 1 and ½ laps to be completed before the wind disappeared again. Keith Simmons and Richard Wills laid out the buoys to give a windward mark, with spreader, and the start line also functioning as a leeward gate. After 6 races and a break, the opportunity was taken to shift the course slightly as the wind direction changed, and also to slightly lengthen the start line. With half of the fleet sporting[…]

IOM Winter Series January 2019

We had a most pleasing turn out for this IOM race from you ,the members, on the day .  It goes to show we still have many members who enjoy racing this class within the Club.  The weather or should I dare say the actual wind strength caused some certain different opinions among the participants as to what rig would be the most  applicable on the day occurred initially. . Just about 99% of the helms opted for the `A`rig ,bar one who shall be nameless who had a word or two with Odin the night before as to what[…]

IOM Winter Series December 2018

Hello all you IOM helms and more                   The `Xmas Edition` of the IOM class boats racing  was held after a previous date was cancelled due to some weather that put paid to our on going race schedules for this year .   The response from the members was second to none  despite several of our IOM class racers were otherwise disposed in some far flung parts of the country. Or dare I mention it …shopping ?   The weather in the early morning looked rather daunting to say the least as[…]
