` The day was somewhat challenging yet again .An understatement no less .The last vestiges of the awful weather had decided not to leave us for our efforts whatsoever leaving us to cope with some torrential rain and low viz that gave the course setting many problems . The wind started of ideal for a `B`rig set up but not entirely ideal as it was angled across the lake making the windward mark a tough call to see and make .With the added rain which most certainly having a heavy influence on the track everyone soldiered on regardless. Dartmoor can ,as we all know through[…]

DF65 Race Report for Saturday 17th:- After a foggy drive to the lake for most skippers, they gradually arrived in “flocks” just like the landing of a “squadron on geese” onto our lake! Steve W (RO) with Dave M had made ready all the necessary kit to get the races underway, unfortunately the Dartmoor wind/weather (like a computer) said “No”. So we waited for the predicted light winds to arrive from the NNW to N direction, eventually it decided to arrive! So with a simple windward, leeward triangular course set & the control zone on the East bank, the racing[…]

This will be my first IOM report on our new DMBC Webpage . Our other Class Captains will follow suite no doubt. The day ahead was going to be a bit of a challenge to say the least. Someone had decided to wreck their car on the over night ice delaying our preparations lakeside. Our intrepid racers who later on defied the conditions, quickly went into fast track rigging in no time at all . As PRO, I had set our usual windward/leeward course out, but with a longer wing mark due to the wind angle in which to create a slightly longer course without[…]

IOM Winter Series January Hi All Today was the rescheduled race from 2 weeks ago. On arrival at the lake the weather was much the same as 2 weeks ago! However after emailing on Friday the 6 who said they would race arrived. Initially it looked like B rig but the wind dropped before racing started so A rigs it was. A windward leeward course with a spreader was used with the buoys not too far up the lake due to bad visibility and wind shadow from the south bank. Neil missed the first 2 races due to having to[…]

Dave Morris and I have had discussions recently about the continuation of the IOM Race officer Rota system. Many of those who have done it felt that it was worthwhile, but thought the ARO and particularly the Average points awarded was not really needed. With this in mind Dave has compiled a preliminary listing of helms who would appear to be suitable to take on the role of RO, however there are others but for reasons of distance travel etc** have not as yet been placed on the listing. The whole objective of the idea is for the Club to[…]

The commodore asked the 6 Metre members who were present on Saturday as to their thoughts on what the 6 metre class wanted to do about Winter racing. After some discussion it was generally agreed that because of low racing numbers that the 6’s will race ad hoc on the first Saturday of the month. With racing courses being arranged so as not to stop others from using the Lake It is hoped that the fleet racing numbers will generally increase. The ultimate aim is of course to see an active racing fleet with its own fully organised racing series[…]
