On Saturday 30th of September, the Dartmoor Radio Sailing Club held it’s second Open Day at Shaugh Lake. The event was attended by members of Plymouth Model Boat Club, and Exeter Model Boat Club, and from St Dennis in Cornwall.
The lake was divided into three sections, namely a Fast Electric area where the high speed craft were demonstrated along the south shore of the lake, the middle area being allocated for the sailing boats, and the north shore was allocated to the Scale Model section. The east shore had a specially laid out slalom course for timed runs by the sailing boats.
There were a number of excellent scale models of ships, motor boats and models of service craft such as MTBs of both the RAF and the Royal Navy, and even a nuclear submarine.
The weather was not very kind to us, serving up a couple of very heavy showers, and one or two fierce gusts of wind, but the day was a success in spite of that. Tea and Coffee was available in the clubhouse throughout the day, and lunchtime was a very convivial affair, and overall everyone enjoyed the day.
